Emulation or a study of the watercolor techniques of Homer, our American Civil War painter and a mentor of mine. I recently did this demonstration for my class. The copying of other artists as a means of education has been a tradition in all cultures throughout history. It helps to promote not just an understanding of our past but gives us tools to express the future.
