The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. I really love to paint from these kind of photographs, as it challenges me without overwhelming me. It's loaded with overlap and detail, has a composition that is without boundaries, and uses plenty of color. The shapes and sizes of the stems and branches are wonderfully varied also.
